2018: Donated to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and The Mental Health Association of Monmouth County
2019: Donated to RBR The Source, Red Bank Catholic, and Rumson Fair Haven HS to start and implement mental health resources, and the Mental Health Association of Monmouth County
2020 and 2021: During the Global pandemic, an Ambassador program was formed at each high school. Students were able to stay connected through online meetings and work virtually on projects. Ambassadors are committed to ensuring suicide prevention education and mental health/wellness initiatives are addressed as well as raising general awareness of suicide and mental health in their schools and greater school community.
Funds from the virtual races were used to offset the cost of launching the Ambassador program, as well as awareness activities including shirts for students and balloon arches. Guest speaker Dennard Mitchell author of Next Level Student Success: Practical ways to Achieve Success in School and in Life presented to select grade levels at all 3 schools. An evening presentation was held for the community, providing an opportunity for parents/guardians to learn how to support their students in developing practical, actionable tips that students can implement immediately to achieve success.
2022-2023 School Year: Each school received $10,000 to spend on mental health and wellness initiatives within their school and school community. The Ambassador program has been promoting the new 988 crisis line. At their rival football game, both RBC and RFH donned You Matter shirts displaying the 988 crisis line. The double header “Battle of Ridge Road” basketball game between RFH and RBR served as the backdrop for students to come together for mental health awareness. RBR and RFH students wore Stay Strong and You Matter shirts both with the crisis line information on them. Students shared resources, gave out 988 bracelets and promoted the organization at both events.
Ambassadors have presented information to students in their schools, spoken to the public at sporting events (football, basketball, ice hockey), promoted suicide education and prevention with balloon arches teal/purple (suicide awareness) or green/white (mental health awareness), launched anti-bullying/kindness campaigns and relayed valuable information through social media.
During the 2022-2023 school year, the students and advisors also began working to rebrand the organization as The Ridge Road Alliance for Suicide Prevention and Education, which will serve as the umbrella organization for the 5K and the Ambassador Program. A new logo and website with resources will be available in Spring of 2023.
